Young Jack Scorpio

The 1960's brought forth quite a bit of change to Jamaica, independence from the British and interestingly a great tranisition in entertainment. from ska and rocksteady to what became known as "reggae".

 

With the advent of reggae, came many rising talents. Among those talents, was Maurice "Jack Scorpio" Johnson- a young man with a vision to transition his life, his community, and the music industry in Jamaica. Jack grew up with his father, George Johnson in the inner cities of Kingston, Jamaica- Drewsland.

Proceeding the loss of his father at the age of 13, he decided to pursue music-a resort from going through hardship, a loss, and trying to pick up himself and seek something for himself that would not just change his life but the music industry of Jamaica forever.

Black Scorpio Become a Hit Record Label in the 80s

 The studio became the haven for many rising talents to record their songs and record label continued to grow just as fast as the sound system, producing classic hits from some of the latest and greatest including Friends for Life-Dennis Brown, Consequence-Gregory Issacs, She's Mine-Barrington Levy, See Zion-Garnett Silk", "Now that we found love-Bunny Rugs and Sean Paul", Praise Him-Beenie Man, Style and Fashion-Papa San, and sound system anthem Soundboy Killing-Mega Banton to name a few.

Legendary

With over 50 years in reggae production, Jack Scorpio is now one of the world's biggest icons in reggae having produced countless hits from some of the most renowned names in music. In 2010, Jack was inducted in the Hall of Fame of International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA). (IRAWMA). 

In 2019, Jack Scorpio along with an incredible team consisting of DJ Bambino, Snow Cone, Producer Salaam Remi, and Spragga Benz took home the trophy as Red Bull Sound Clash Winners which was staged in Jamaica's National Arena!
