The Mid90s: Jr Scorpio

While Jack started realizing his vision, he also worked towards training his first born the trade of music, to continue on developing reggae music in Jamaica. Maurice"Kerry" Johnson Jr did exactly that!

At the age of 14, he had already produced music for some of the biggest talents in reggae at the time and everyone in the music fraternity saw him as the next best thing-a young producer on the rise. In 1994, shortly after the release of what became the sound's anthem, Soundboy Killing by Mega Banton, horrible news hit the industry, the Johnson family, and tore Jack apart-Kerry lost life in a motor vehicle at merely 15 years old. The loss was very devastating for Scorpio, leaving him to time away from music.

Proceeding Kerry's death, came a years of mourning and emotion having to adjust to the pain of losing Jack's first born. It was not until the late 90s, early 00s that Jack was able to start re-adjusting and truly giving music his all, again investing in local talent and eventually redeveloping a studio

Black Scorpio Grand Opening of the new studio welcomed the ribbon cutting with then

The Late Honorable, Opposition Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party - Edward Seaga (2000)

PNP Minister of Tourism and Sports, The Honorable Portia Simpson Miller (2000)

and the Honorable Delano Franklin, and the Honorable Babsy Grange

Black Scorpio Become a Hit Record Label in the 80s

The studio became the haven for many rising talents to record their songs and record label continued to grow just as fast as the sound system, producing classic hits from some of the latest and greatest including Friends for Life-Dennis Brown, Consequence-Gregory Issacs, She's Mine-Barrington Levy, See Zion-Garnett Silk", "Now that we found love-Bunny Rugs and Sean Paul", Praise Him-Beenie Man, Style and Fashion-Papa San, and sound system anthem Soundboy Killing-Mega Banton to name a few.

The New Millenium

In the year 2000, he started from scratch building a new studio complex at 144B Molynes Road with a mission to provide the most top notch production services throughout the island. The company broke ground with a red ribbon cutting by PNP Minister of Tourism & Sports, Portia Simpson Miller and Opposition Leader of the JLP, Edward Seaga.

A lot has changed in reggae music since the initiation of Black Scorpio Sound- there's now mp3, wav file, and i-tunes to say the least. All the same, there's nothing quite like the original and to stand by that, Black Scorpio still, to date, house it's LPs, 7 inch records, and even CDs for music lovers worldwide visiting to have access to the real deal-the vintage!

In 2003, One Love Movie starring Ky-Mani Marley, Idris Elba, Cherine Anderson Vas Blackwood, Winston Bell and Winston Stona was shot at the Black Scorpio Studio featuring Jack Scorpio
