The Birth of Black Scorpio Sound
In 1968, Jack, initiated Black Scorpio Sound as "Special I", a little sound ran by him where he would entertain people in his community with music by local talents. In the midst of political uproar and a political party within the country, Jamaica having a name similar to the set, he decided to change it to avoid confusion of any affiliation, and label the set as "Black Scorpio", a representation of his zodiac sign.
Throughout the 1970's, the Black Scorpio team started to develop a name in the community. People from all overstarted to come out to hear the team perform, that in no time, the movement went from being from being a small sound to later one of the biggest names in the 70's. From there, came soundclashes, as other developing sound systems such as King Tubbys and King Jammys along with Black Scorpio started to compete for which sound delivered the best performances.
The 80s: Black Scorpio and Horse Man Crew becomes a Household Name
Leading into the 80s, Black Scorpio Sound also became popularized as "The Horseman Sound" featuring some of the greatest talents on the team including veteran DJ-Lord Sassafrass, General Trees, Yellow Man, and later presented a platform for young talents at the time like 10 year old Beenie Man, Mega Banton, Wayne Wonder and many more to present their talents in front of the sound systems raving fans.

It was definitely an exciting time for reggae and dancehall music and Black Scorpio was slowly but surely starting to realize its impact.
While the sound system continued to acquire popularity in the 80s with raving dancehall and reggae fans, The Horseman Sound became mobile- moving from being stationed in Kingston, to later having it's own mobile truck for bookings throughout the island. As reggae started to gain popularity over the world, Black Scorpio became known for premium entertainment and there, brought exponential growth as music lovers as far as Asia, Europe, and North America yearned for sound clashes featuring the sound in their local district.
